Both Lucha Brothers are now officially under the WWE umbrella.
Following the his contract release from AEW, Rey Fenix is set to make his mark in WWE. The company announced during today’s WWE SmackDown in London, England that the former AEW star will officially make his debut on the blue brand next Friday at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL.
Fans have been anticipating this jump to WWE for quite some time. AEW President, Tony Khan was initially reluctant to release the high flying luchador from his contract. He added injury time to his deal, but relented a few weeks ago and decided to release Rey from his contract.
There was much speculation as to what Rey Fenix’s name would be under WWE given that Rey Mysterio is still signed to WWE and Vince McMahon typically did not like having wrestlers with the same name. Many wondered what brand he would be signed to, whether he would reunite with his brother as a tag team or be a singles competitor. For now it appears that the Lucha Bros will remain on different brands and chase singles success.
